When you visit our offices in the Presidio of San Francisco,
you may want to allow extra time to visit some of the park’s
attractions.
The Presidio served as a military post under Spain (1776-1822),
Mexico (1822-48), and the United States (1848-1994). In 1994,
the Presidio became part of the Golden Gate National Recreation
Area and today is managed by the National Park Service and
the Presidio Trust, a special public-private governmental
agency.
There are miles of hiking and biking in the 1,491 acres of
the Presidio as well as some of the most spectacular views
in the world. The historic buildings and the vistas offer
excellent opportunities for photography.
You can walk or drive down to Crissy Field at the edge of
the bay, which, along with the entire Presidio, was designated
a National Historic Landmark in 1962. There is a visitor center
and cafes at Crissy Field, and you can walk up to the Golden
Gate Bridge.
You can also visit the Letterman Digital Arts Center, the
new home of George Lucas’s film company, right next
door to our office. Seventeen of the Letterman Digital Art
Center's 23 acres are public park space, designed by renowned
landscape artist Lawrence Halprin. The Perk Presidio café
is also on site and open to the public.
